Karen Gemma Brewer

Karen Gemma Brewer is a writer, singer and actor from Ceredigion. Born of coalmining and farm-working stock she combines emotion and mundanity with a strong sense of the absurd, is published in the UK, Europe and USA and translated into several languages.

Karen Gemma has released two volumes of poetry with Cowry Publishing, ‘Dancing in the Sun’ and her debut collection ‘Seeds from a dandelion’ which is now in a second edition. She is also editor of two Cowry anthologies: ‘Open Heart Microphone – an anthology by The Cellar Bards’ and ‘Write it OUT! –  an anthology of new LGBTQ+ writing from Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire’ as well as Lampeter Writers’ Workshop’s 40th anniversary anthology ‘Ruby Tuesdays’.

Her third poetry collection: ‘More Scarecrow Than Pirate’ and a volume of selected poems ‘Dandelion in the Sun’ are recently issued by Mosaique Press.

A two-time winner of the ‘Tim Williams Performance Poetry Award’ Karen Gemma appears frequently on stage, radio and screen, is co-organiser of Gŵyl Lyfrau Aberaeron Book Festival, resident MC of Cardigan’s Cellar Bards, a member of WordPlay music and poetry collective, Wales’ Red Poets and Lampeter Writers’ Workshop. She has toured four one-woman-shows, appears often on the Edinburgh Fringe and between tours runs Gwisgo Bookworm independent book and record shop in Aberaeron with partner Niki.
